Wood Rot

Many elements of your home are constructed with wood, so it’s natural to assume that at some point or another, you will need wood rot repair. Wood is a material which has the capability to decay or rot unless kept dry and in the appropriate conditions. Mold growth associated with wood rot may be hazardous for your health and can trigger serious damage to the furnishings and structural elements of your house. Weakened wood components in your home can pose a safety threat to the structural integrity of your entire residence. Not only that, but wood rot attracts hungry termites and other unwanted pests.

Checking for Wood Rot

You need to routinely check your home for wood rot as well as mold contamination. When checking for wood rot, carefully check any locations that might be afflicted with moisture or that may have bad air flow. Look for warped flooring, places where the walls or ceilings are stained, and spots where condensation has built up on your windows.

To check for wood rot, look for any wetness in the area and use a screwdriver, to punch into the wood to see if it’s still solid. Some inside areas to check are bathrooms and kitchens, basements, crawl spaces, and attics. it’s also wise to check are windows, door frames, anywhere that touches the ground, exterior siding, roofing, decks, foundations, vents and rain gutters.
