Architectural Laminate Shingles

Architectural laminate roof shingles are a popular choice of roofing shingle with homeowners and roofers. Architectural laminate roof shingles create depth and the appearance that is similar to wood shake shingles. The roofing shingles contain more than one layer of tabs which make them extra thick. Compared to the older style 3-tab residential roofs shingles, architectural laminate roof shingles are more energy-efficient, provide better wear, fire protection and shield against blow-offs from the wind.

Gable Roofs

A gable roof is the most popular and simplest roof design to build for home construction. It has two sloping sides that meet in the middle at the ridge, creating end walls with a triangular extension, called a gable, at the top. A gable roof design is exclusively adopted in places where rainfall and snowfall is abundant. That’s because it has a high ceiling and good ventilation which doesn’t let snow, leaves, rain or any other debris gather on the roof, and in turn, it protects the home from storm and weather damage. Although gable roofs are known to possess a variety of peaks and pitches, the pitch and slopes of the roof are known to let gravity do its job and let rain water run off.

Hip & Valley Roofs

Hips & valleys connect to theoretical center points, and must be adjusted accordingly. The upper end should attach slightly lower than the edge of the common ridge, and the lower end should attach slightly lower than the edge of the framing member. This is so that the center point of the plane meets the center point of the other members.

Flat Roofs

These can be built using a variety of different building materials. Today, continuous membrane coverings are used for their superior leak prevention and resistance to water pooling. Sealed metal, decks, paving stones and even topsoil and grasses are also used to cover flat roofs. Flat roofs are more economical and efficient than other roof shapes because all the space above and below the roof can be utilized. They supply space for outdoor living or recreational space such as roof gardens or decks. Flat roofs are easier to inspect than other roofs and are built to last.

Gable & Valley Roofs

This kind of roof consists of a gable and valley. The valley is formed where the two different sections of the roof meet, generally at a 90° angle. This type of roof is more intricate than the normal gable roof construction which makes is a great choice for homeowners looking to be unique in their home building project.

Hip Roofs

A hip roof is when all sides of the roof point downward to the exterior walls of the home, and generally also have a slight slope to them.

Mansard Roofs

A mansard roof is a 4-sided gambrel hip roof which has two slopes on each side with the lower sides featuring windows. This is a rather old roofing style, but still looks elegant.

Gambrel Roofs

A gambrel style is a 2-sided roof featuring slopes on each side. The upper slope of the sides has a shallow angle and the lower side is more steep. This is a common roof style used on barns and old farm homes.
