Customer Stories

We will be regularly adding some stories that our customers have asked us to share.

His son had referred the Melrose Park customer to Harris Roofing, Siding & Doors after a recent storm. While it was a bit of a drive to the Glen Ellyn showroom, the customer felt it was worth it after meeting Scott. The Project Manager helped him through the process, ultimately guiding him to Mastic Carvedwood siding in Victorian Grey & white gutters and soffit & fascia.

Scott’s customer bought his Wheaton home 2 years ago at below the market rate. He used the savings to make some remodeling improvements. Therma-Tru Classic-Craft timeless styling complimented his home’s Colonial styling; the wide glass let more light into the home, in spite of the front porch’s overhang. He would save a few hundred dollars by staining the back door himself, & let Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors stain the front door. Consistent with the white porch pillars, he added white Mastic Vinyl siding, and soffit & fascia and gutters.

Project Manager Lance advised his Glen Ellyn client that HARRIS ROOFING, SIDING, WINDOWS & DOORS was an Owens Corning Roofing Preferred Contractor which meant that the warranty on his Owens Corning Architectural Duration Designer shingles would be in effect for manufacturing defects as long as he owned his home.

After almost 200 years, the utility building in Wheaton was certainly due for a “facelift”. Project Manager Scott advised Wheaton’s Public Works Manager that Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors could definitely replace the siding, soffit & fascia & gutters – all in white to match the other buildings!

As she biked around her neighborhood, Lance’s Bartlett customer took note of her neighbors’ windows, trying to guess which ones were Alside. She needed new siding, but had to change her windows before she could have the siding replaced. Ultimately, it was all worth the wait – she loved her new Alside windows. She was especially impressed with their Lifetime Limited Warranty.

Whether he stayed in his home or downsized, the Glen Ellyn resident knew his 26-yr old home needed siding. When he asked friends & neighbors who they had used for home remodeling projects, “Harris Roofing, Siding & Doors” was the response he heard most often. After meeting Harris’ Project Manager, Scott, he understood why: because of his years in the industry, Scott was knowledgeable about the products he showed and he provided information in a way that made making an educated decision easy.

Lance’s Compton Hills’ customer wanted to replace the vinyl siding on her 31-yr old ranch home with something more current & harmonious with the area. Lance suggested LP siding, a wood by-product that is engineered for strength and protection against fungal rot and termites. Should she ever want to sell, she could use LP’s 5/50 Year Transferable Limited Warranty as a selling point.

It seemed strange to Lance’s Barrington customer that patio doors were ever made of wood; how was that long-lasting or efficient? He was looking forward to the new Alside durable vinyl patio door. Its silky smooth operation would make going out to the back yard & deck a lot easier!

The Glen Ellyn customer recently observed that the siding on his 51-yr old house was looking worn, so he stopped by the nearby Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors showroom for help. In a few days, the Streamwood office called to make an appointment for Project Manager Lance to evaluate his needs & to give him an estimate – at no obligation! The customer appreciated the prompt service.

Whether the Glen Ellyn couple stayed in their home or downsized, they knew their 26-yr old home needed siding. When asked who their friends & neighbors had used for home remodeling projects, “Harris Roofing, Siding & Doors” was the response they heard most often. After meeting Harris’ Project Manager, Scott, he could understand why: Scott was knowledgeable about his products, had many years’ experience in the industry and provided information so the homeowners could make their own educated decision.

The Glen Ellyn customer needed energy-efficient windows for her 1928 cottage-style home, but still wanted to maintain its charm. After Project Manager Lance saw the home, he recommended Marvin® Replacement Windows. She ultimately chose an assortment: mostly double-hung, but a large glider window for the focal point facing the street. As an extra touch & to match the front door, she added optional Simulated Divided Lites. She looked forward to saving on her energy bills – possibly 15%!

When Project Manager, Lance heard from his Wheaton customer that she wanted to improve the energy efficiency of her home, he immediately thought of Mezzo® Windows from Alside. These durable, affordable windows have a narrowline frame and sash that let maximum daylight into the house, adding to its bright & open floor plan. In the end, she went with double-hungs & sliders. She especially liked the decorative grids enclosed within the insulated glass – they made for easy cleaning!

The Schaumburg customer wanted a fire door installed between his garage & house. He had relied on Project Manager Scott’s expertise before for previous home improvement projects, so with his guidance, he selected a 20-minute door from Therma-Tru’s Classic-Craft line. The resulting peace of mind was well worth the cost of this exceptional door.

The Glen Ellyn customer wanted to replace her drafty windows before winter. Because the goal was to keep the original look of the 1926 house, her Project Manager, Lance recommended Marvin Windows – known for their compatibility with historic homes. From Marvin’s numerous options, she chose Double-Hung windows & a Bay window - Mulberry clad for the exterior with a Custom color for the interior.

Scott’s customer & wife moved in shortly after the house was built in 1992 & were now thinking about relocating. In keeping with the house’s character, they decided to replace the windows with Sierra Pacific’s Premium Double Hung window. They liked the impressive selection of design options & that the details were similar to those of premium wood windows.

As Project Manager for Harris Roofing, Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors, Joe Hopkins especially liked being assigned projects in South Barrington; there were such beautiful homes there! A customer’s skylights were leaking & some of the shingles had blown off. Joe expertly diagnosed the cause & replaced 5 skylights with Velux’s No Leak Skylight. Jobs aren’t always routine, but the custom fitting required was nothing Joe hadn’t encountered before. His crew also replaced the wood shakes with GAF Timberline HD shingles. While the Lifetime Ltd. transferable warranty on material & installation labor for the first ten years was impressive, the deciding factor was that they are guaranteed to withstand winds up to 130 mph. No wonder they have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal!

Since purchasing it in the ‘80s, Scott’s customer, Lori had a lot of work done on her home. Now she was replacing the front & back doors with 20-minute fire doors from Therma-Tru’s Fiber-Classic Oak Collection. She had always wanted the safety of a fire door, and was reassured to find out they were also rated a Consumers Digest Best Buy!

Lance’s Bartlett customer awoke in the middle of the night. It was frigid outside, but it was also cold inside! “This is ridiculous,” she thought. “I’m just throwing money out the door!” The next day, she called Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors. Project Manager Lance helped her select 2 entry doors that met her association’s guidelines: white Therma-Tru entry doors designed to provide 20 minutes to safely exit a home in the event of a fire.

Whatever they decided to do – join their family in California or stay in Schaumburg - Scott’s customers wanted to finish replacing the windows on their house. They were happy with the Andersen Gliding windows they put on the one side of the house & wanted to replace the rest with some of the other styles Andersen offered: Casement, Double-Hung, Awning. They knew from previous dealings with Scott at Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors, they would be doing business with a company that does 1st-rate work!

Dave, a Project Manager from Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors assured his Lake in the Hills customer that his company had seen it before: a “Storm Chaser” had descended on the area after high winds ripped through the northern suburbs, damaging numerous homes. He tried to make the homeowner feel better by pointing out that he was relatively lucky; not only was he now dealing with a company with a sterling reputation, he only had to replace the siding above the garage! And Mastic’s Carvedwood in Cameo, a standard color, would look great with the soft earth tones of the existing brick.

The bad news? Someone had thrown a rock through their picture window; the good news? Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors was able to quickly send out their window expert & Project Manager, Dave for an estimate on a replacement window. They were impressed with Sierra Pacific’s business plan: a family-owned business with product control from planted seed – they owned just under 2 million acres of timberland in California and Washington - to delivered window. Now they just had to choose between a Bay window and a Bow window – both products had an impressive reputation & warranty.

Rehabbing older homes helped offset the stress of Scott’s customer’s job as a Quality Assurance Manager where his “attention to detail” was a definite asset. It was this appreciation of detail that led him to choose a door from Therma-Tru’s Classic-Craft Canvas Collection for his front entry. While he liked Therma-Tru’s energy-efficiency, he was especially impressed with the details that mimicked a real wood door: the solid hardwood square edge, the deeper than average embossments & the wider than average amount of glass that let light into his home, creating a unique entryway.

Dave, Project Manager from Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors, explained to his Schaumburg customer that there have been tremendous energy innovations in the 31 years since his home was built. As long as his siding needed replacing, he might want to consider upgrading to insulated siding. Dave recommended Mastic Structure Home Insulation System - a combination of vinyl siding & superior foam. This blend is designed to keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer. The wide panels look and feel like traditional wood siding, are easy to maintain & will resist impact – a trait that should come in handy for the next hail storm!

The Schaumburg woman contemplated the samples & literature on her coffee table. Dave, the Project Manager from Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors came highly recommended. She was impressed with his knowledge & especially liked the company’s solid reputation. With Dave’s guidance, she eventually chose coordinating siding, roofing & windows from Mastic, GAF & Alside. As stressful as an unexpected major remodeling job can be, she was grateful to be able to work with the same Project Manager throughout all aspects of it.

When a Schaumburg homeowner saw that his windows’ seals were dried out & broken, he scheduled a consultation appointment with Phil Davis, owner of Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors. He had worked with Phil on another project & had been impressed with his manner – knowledgeable but without the high-pressure sales tactics. He ultimately replaced his windows with Alside’s Sheffield Double-Hung - tan on the outside & white on the inside. Phil explained that the sloped sills would force water to drain to the exterior of the window, so these seals wouldn’t rot like the old ones had. Perfect! And what’s not to like about Alside’s Lifetime Limited Warranty?

“Great! New windows with minimal disruption & mess! ”, said Scott’s West Chicago customer. The Senior Project Manager at Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors had just informed him that Sierra Pacific’s Transcend Double-Hung sash replacement kit would be sized to fit his existing windows’ openings. Once materials arrived & were at his home, replacing his windows’ sash & jamb liners with Sierra Pacific’s Transcend windows would require only 2 hours. Relatively new to the Midwest, Sierra Pacific was steadily winning over customers with its quick turn-around time, as well as its business practice to ‘Do it right, or do it twice’. Just like doing business with Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors, there’s an advantage to dealing with a family-run company.

The couple had recently moved into Lake Barrington & needed to replace their fading front entry door. Harris Roofing, Siding, Windows & Doors sent Project Manager Lance to help. He advised that a home of this size – 4500 square feet – required an entrance that made a “statement”. After much consideration, they ultimately chose a Double entry door from Fiber Classic’s Craftsman line. They liked the wood-grained texture, the choice of stylish options & the outstanding warranty Therma-Tru provided.

As the result of a brief, but intense hail storm last year, a Schaumburg home needed some repairs. Working with Harris’ expert Project Manager, Joe, the homeowner chose GAF’s Timberline in Shakewood - guaranteed to withstand winds up to 130 mph! The new color required changing his soffit & fascia, so he did that, too. Lastly, he added something he had always wanted - LP Smartside siding. A freak storm resulted in a relationship with a trustworthy remodeler who he could rely on to achieve his desired upgrades! To quote a famous British philosopher, “Always look on the bright side of life.”

Having purchased a home that was more than 50 years old, the new owner mentally added replacing the roof to his “To-Do” list. Hearing that he wanted to modernize the home’s look, his Project Manager, Joe recommended Owens Corning’s Oakridge® laminated shingles. An upgrade from traditional three-tab shingles, these shingles are available in colors that are popular today. The result is a home whose character is unique in his neighborhood.

A customer who lives in a 57-yr old house in Wheaton, Illinois loved the character of her older home, but was determined not to endure another uncomfortable winter there because of its drafty wooden front door. She stopped in our showroom at 321 Roosevelt Rd in Glen Ellyn where the attendant educated her about recent innovations in energy-efficient doors. She used the information and materials she was given to compile some questions for Lance, her assigned Project Manager. After presenting her with appropriate options, he ultimately helped her choose a door that significantly reduced her energy bills, made a strong impact when viewed from the street & still kept the “feel” of the wonderful older homes on the block.

A Glen Ellyn customer wanted to replace his old wooden sliding door with a maintenance-free version. Online research directed him to our web site where he read about Alside’s 6100 Patio Door. He was impressed to read that these doors never need painting & can be cleaned just by wiping them with a damp cloth. At our Roosevelt Rd showroom he saw its solid construction and easy-glide operation. A few weeks after working with Lance, one of our Project Managers, he now has a new, energy-efficient patio door – with a Lifetime Limited Warranty!
